My Name is Sophia

I am a Massachusetts based Illustrator and designer focused on creating food related artwork and whimsical illustrations. I have a BFA in Illustration from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, Massachusetts.

My food illustration work is heavily inspired by old cookbooks with retro recipes from the 1950’s (particularly ones that jiggle). Learning to cook and bake with my grandmother Margaret and my mother Gemma was a huge part of my childhood and continues to be an inspiration for me to this day. My family history and childhood has helped me find an admiration for food illustration, and reminds me of my family's history.

My whimsical illustrations, featuring quirky characters, detailed insects, and playful typography are inspired by the world around me. Childhood nostalgia and my experience growing up as a girl have left a lasting impression, and I strive to keep that sense of magic alive in my work today. Influences like Lauren Childs, Maurice Sendak, Tim Burton and Lane Smith have shaped my artistic vision from an early age.

My work has appeared in Creative Quarterly, 3x3 Mag, Scholastic Art Awards and Handel & Haydn Society. I have had my work exhibited at Zone 3 with Harvard University and Isenberg Projects in Allston, Massachusetts as part of their Art In Print - Volume 14 Series, as well as in multiple galleries at Massachusetts College of Art & Design in Boston, Massachusetts; including the 2023, 2024, & 2025 MassArt Auctions.
